Motorcycle culture doesn’t survive by accident. New riders have to come from somewhere — dirt bikes, local tracks, drag strips, motocross, flat track, family race nights, and the places that first make people fall in love with two wheels.

South Carolina just passed a Right to Race law designed to protect long-standing racing facilities from certain nuisance lawsuits when development and new homeowners move in around tracks that were already there. But this story is bigger than one state and bigger than one racetrack.

For Harley-Davidson riders, Indian Motorcycle fans, dirt bike riders, and anyone who cares about the future of motorcycling, this matters. If we keep losing the places that introduce people to riding, racing, wrenching, and motorcycle culture, the industry has a much bigger problem than just expensive bikes or declining sales.
